Recently I was presented with somewhat of a problem – the problem of buying a new pair of shoe and figuring out the exact moment when I should wear them. For example, I wouldn’t want to wear those fancy, sparkling newbies while it’s raining. Nor would I want to wear them on a day of higher than usual activity. So when is it a good time to break into those new pair of shoes?
- A wedding – So I’m not telling you to save them for that special day..(who can wait that long)..but any wedding event really! You don’t have to walk around too much. You can be sure that the floors will be clean enough for your newbies to walk around on. Plus, you can totally flaunt your shoes to whomever you choose, it’s a night of looking as fabulous as you want!
- At the movies – Make sure not to step on anything sticky or crunchy.
- Date night – You want to impress that special someone…what better way to do this than on a date! This is probably the perfect time to feel as fabulous as you are on the inside.
- Family reunion – Who wouldn’t want to flash those babies so your entire family can relish in envy. Just remember not to leave them in isolated places…we don’t want family thinking what’s yours is theirs.
So in short, if you’re still wondering when you should start wearing those new pair of shoes, just remember that most of the time blisters are unavoidable, scratches are inevitable and really the decision is totally up to you – carpe diem!!!
Okay so it’s not exactly “bling”..but it might as well be! Lately, I’ve been noticing that whether you’re looking for pumps, flats, stiletto’s or plain old kicks, you can find them bling’d out in beads, spikes, shiny lace, you name it.
Whether you’re a fan of this or not, is besides the point…it’s a fashion forward statement that anyone bold enough to take can potentially look amazing in or just down right horrible! Either way..it’s a rock’n look and I applaud anyone risky enough to take it.
Have a look below and if you like what you see…have fun shopping and let us know what you find!!

It’s been a while since I last posted – what can I say the sudden change in weather had me hibernating under layers of holiday fun and work (and not the fun kind!).
During my hiatus, a couple of revelations occurred that I obviously couldn’t wait to share with all of you.
- Never underestimate the power of a sale
- Even though a pair of shoes might be more expensive than your dining table doesn’t mean that it was worth purchasing!!
- It might get a little nippier outside but that shouldn’t stop anyone from wearing those high heels…
So I’m sure most of you took advantage of those amazing mark downs – while some of you felt that it might be better to stay indoors and let the crazies deal with the sales! Either way, I have to say that this winter season for me was a steal. It’s been years since I went to a good sale and I have to say that this year was especially extraordinary. I found amazing deals on shoes that I’ve been eying for months – and YES I succumbed to the inner diva and bought most of those shoe candies!
Which goes to my next point, who said that buying a pair of shoes or anything for that matter at regular price is any better than buying them for 40% off the regular price? I must admit, there’s something about purchasing items at regular price, an adrenaline rush of sorts. But some of the shoes that I bought on sale I must say had my heart palpitating. Plus I didn’t even have to fight for them…it was a very civilized shopping experience.
On the flip side, the one pair of shoes that I bought at regular price turned out to be a walking disaster – LITERALLY!!! When I came home to try them on, I realized that they squeak! YES I said SQUEEK. I spent more on these pair of shoes than I did on the dining table that I bought a year ago..and trust me when I say that I saw red! I immediately returned them and realized that it’s not about how much you spend on a pair of shoe candy’s, it’s about the squeak!!!
Oh and one last thing…just because it’s winter doesn’t mean that you have to hide those heels from the rest of the world! Don’t let the cold get you down – kick up your heels and fit them into a fabulous pair of stilettos you’d be amazed how quick you can go from hibernation to celebration (yes cheesy..but you get my point)!!!
Anyone wonder where the concept of shoes came from? Well I do, after doing some research I found that shoes was one of the first inventions made by our ancestors. Go figure!! AND the heels were actually a very controversial subject matter back in the day. People just didn’t understand the need for women to walk in heels. It was only in the 1850s that people started wearing heels.
“Victorians thought that the high heel emphasized the instep arch, which was seen as symbolic of a curve of a woman”. I mean this totally stays true for today’s day and age. The heel is associated with sexiness, sophistication, and elegance. It makes women feel confident, despite where they come from and who they are – not to forget really tall!!
I don’t even want to imagine what we would do without Stilettos or Pumps? I don’t want to think about it. All I know is that we’ve made a lot of progress and no matter how convinced our ancestors were about them…they were wrong.
Is there such a thing as having too many shoes?
I have to say I agree! Some people just hoard a bunch of shoes, which they never end up wearing for years. It’s like they keep it in their closet as a souvenir. Reminding them of good old days and bad ones too. I’m a firm believer that having too many shoes says a lot about you.
Symptoms of Shoe-a- holic:
- You’re unable to let go and still have those shoes from your prom
- You have a lot going on in your life and don’t even know how many pairs you own
- You’ve already bought a pair of shoes for your wedding but still need to find that special someone to join in the ceremony
- You’re confused about what fashion direction you want to move towards so you just buy anything you think is cute, or your friend thinks is cute
- You might be lazy and too tired to go through everything is what you tell yourself every time you enter your shoe closet
- You secretly think that one day you’ll give all your old pair of shoes to your daughter and pass them on as a vintage collection
If you exhibit any of these symptoms here’s the reality, you need to throw out, donate or give away your old shoes in order to make room for new ones. This will take a lot of will power but my motto is, if you haven’t worn them for a full four season cycle then they aint yours anymore!
The good news is that by throwing it away, you can put more thought into who you are now. And YES your fashion sense is constantly evolving and IT’S OKAY to feel this way. Start today by going in your closet and letting go of your shoe hoarding collection – there might be one or two you’d like to keep – but stop being a Shoe-a-holic. I guarantee you’ll feel as fresh as a summer’s morning once this shoe mess is cleaned up!
If you’re interested in giving away your shoes you can check some of these cool organizations that will pay your shoes forward:
Souls 4 Souls
Donate your old Shoes
Whether you like it or not – your shoes say a lot about you!
They say ‘Oh wow” – “Oh My God” – “What was she thinking” – “Cute” – “LOVE”!
But more than that your shoes mirror your personality and there’s nothing wrong with that. From colour, to style, height, heel and oh yes lest us not forget comfort.
Shoes are such a huge part of our lives. We’re constantly in a pair of them all day every day. Some of us even wear them inside our homes – nuts right!
But jokes aside, if you’re ever interested in figuring out the opposite sex, check their shoes out. It says a lot about them..how much time they put in getting ready, their fashion sense, how much they really care about their overall look and appearance. Cheryl Crowe (Brittain’s former X-Factor judge) can attest to the fact that she’s never shy about checking a guy’s shoes out!
Shoes are a way of life!
What shoe do you identify most with? And why?
As the winter fast approaches our feet not only needs to feel warm but look pretty.
Which boots are you planning on wearing this winter?
High and sexy?
Sensual but comfortable?
Or just same plain old UGGS
Depending on what occasion your going to you’ll have to prepare your boots accordingly. You’d never want to wear high and sexy to work unless there’s someone cute you’re hoping to impress!
Sensual and comfortable would be the way to go for work or even school. It’s a great all around boot!
Okay now onto UGGS – there’s not much to say about this. We here at Shoe Candy have our own opinions of UGGS but for now let’s just say that if you’re feeling really lazy these would be the boots for you!
So keep warm this winter and remember you don’t have to look like a Non-Fashionesta Eskimo this winter!

So who could forget one of the most popular episodes of Sex in the City where Carrie is made to feel ashamed about her shoe fetish when her Manolo’s go missing at a friends party? That episode really spoke to me – whether you love Stiletto’s or just prefer Pumps you should be able to freely express your Shoe fetish cause you know what: “Hater’s will be Hater’s!!!
Why is it okay for women or men to spend thousands of dollars on a fancy car, or a watch, a ring, even a vacation?? But when a girl just wants to feel sexy and alive with a pair of high end shoe she’s immediately shunned by people!
Have you ever attended a party wearing that perfect heel the one that makes you feel like superwoman and then there’s that one Shoe hater who gives you that look of death?
Or when you leave your shoe at the door entrance and your shoe somehow ends up in a spin cycle of random people trampling on those $400 pair of L.K’s or $700 Loubies. Well that’s happened to me folks and I was a mess. I found myself taking my shoes and hiding them under the couch or in a room, really any where away from people. I got a lot of weird and awkward stares like something was wrong with me. But they just don’t get it!
So I’m here to tell you that Shoes are like candy…once you let someone else lick them, touch them, trample on them even wear them at times, they’ve been tainted. And a women’s right to shoe is exactly what that means..a Right that should be given to everyone no matter where they come from or what shoe size they happen to be!
I know I know…some of you shoe lovers by now must have just bi-passed this post! But the reality is, we can’t wear heels all day – everyday. Sure, we could if we really wanted to but unfortunately there are some physical repercussions to wearing heels all the time. Check it out!
- Shortening of calf muscles
- Hammer Toes
- Back Ache
